Ajay Banga is an Indian-American business executive who served as the CEO of Mastercard from July 2010 to December 2020. He was born on April 17, 1960, in Pune, India.

Banga completed his Bachelor's degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi in 1981, and went on to earn an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1985.

Before joining Mastercard, Banga worked for several companies, including Nestle, PepsiCo, and Citigroup. He joined Citigroup in 1996 and worked there for over a decade in various leadership positions. In 2009, he was appointed as the CEO of Citigroup's Asia-Pacific region.

Under Banga's leadership, Mastercard expanded its digital payment solutions and made several acquisitions, including the purchase of Vocalink, a UK-based payment company, and the acquisition of Nets' account-to-account payment business in the Nordics.

Banga is also a member of several organizations, including the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the US-India CEO Forum, and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum. In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors, for his contributions to trade and industry.
